Malacañang announced that work in government offices and classes at all levels will be suspended from 12 noon on Thursday, October 31, to allow all government employees and students to travel home ahead for Undas 2024.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin released Memorandum Circular no. 67 last October 22 on behalf of the president.1

“In order to provide government employees full opportunity to properly observe traditional All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day activities, allow them to travel to and from different regions in the country, and promote domestic tourism, work in government offices and classes at all levels shall be suspended on 31 October 2024 starting 12:00 pm", the memo reads.

Private companies however are not included in the declaration. It is up to theses companies whether to follow suit. Government agencies involved in disaster response and delivery of basic services are also not included.

All Saints Day and All Souls Day falls on a Friday and Saturday this 2024. The Marcos administration adopted holiday economics as a policy to help boost domestic tourism which involves moving holidays closer to Saturday or Sunday to create long weekends.2
