CSC targets launch of digitized exams by end of 2024

The Civil Service Commission aims to launch the Civil Service Digital Exam (CSDEx) before the end of this year. This will complement the traditional Pen-and-Paper Test mode of taking the civil exams and will replace the Computerized Examination (COMEX).

CSC Commissioner Aileen Lizada made the announcement during Senate deliberations on the agency’s 2025 budget on last October 10, 2024.¹

While the CSC has implemented COMEX, slots are very limited and can only be taken on-site in CSC offices using CSC designated computers. The new system will allow examinees to bring in their laptops to CSC designated exam centers and will give more chances for OFWs and other Filipinos abroad who wish to take the civil service exam. This will also allow the CSC to accommodate up to 100,000 more examinees, bumping up to 850,000 slots.

The CSC is also targetting to conduct the CSDEx from Monday to Friday which gives examinees more flexibility on when they can take the exams. They are also studying the possibility of holding additional exams during the Christmas season to allow OFWs to take the exams here.

Meanwhile, former CSC chair Karlos Nograles hopes that the additional number of exam takers will increase the number of eligibile civil servants and fill up vacancies in the government²

CSDEx was developed by the CSC in partnership with the University of the Philippines Open University.³
